Grants Awarded for the 2020-21 Academic Year

AMBASSADOR’S FUND FOR CATHOLIC EDUCATION

Wayne, Pa.

“Reserve Funds: Additional COVID-19-Related Funding”

$165,000

Reserve a pool of funds for use in responding to or anticipating as-yet-unknown pressing COVID-related needs that emerge throughout the 2020-21 academic year.  Funds were subsequently applied in August to underwrite the cost of materials to produce 1,200 sliding protective Plexiglas screens — termed teacher sliding partitions (TSP-20) — for use in the archdiocesan suburban elementary schools as an additional layer of safety and protection for teachers and students. The screens were designed, manufactured, and delivered by collaborating funding partner Communications Test Design, Inc., (CTDI), a West Chester-based global engineering company. The protective screens comply with state health and safety regulations and, in counties where permitted, teachers have the ability to remove their masks when speaking. In addition, teachers can increase person-to-person interaction by easily moving the rolling screen directly to a student’s desk and safely speaking with that student.  The portable screens were provided to every homeroom and special area of the 71 suburban archdiocesan elementary schools, with most receiving an average of 15 and some schools as high as 30. The suburban schools were chosen for these tools because federal funds applicable to the city schools are unavailable to them.
